how to paint 3d drawings on rocks step by step

As a management consultant, I'one thousand always on the lookout for new and emerging trends in my clients' businesses. Given my passion for spicy presentations, I'k also scanning the market for new presentation technologies as well.

As part of a serial on presentation trends for 2017 for PowerPoint MVP Ellen Finklestein, I wanted to share the presentation GAME CHANGER I'm super excited almost for 2017.

Microsoft is on a mission to launch "3D for everyone" next bound with its ballsy Windows 10 Creator Update that volition allow u.s.a. to brand 3D sketches and 3D PowerPoint presentations.

Surprisingly, this will all be possible thank you to an update to the Microsoft Paint program – which is now becoming Pigment 3D. Who knew that something equally basic and "caveman" as Pigment would exist paving the fashion to the time to come!

Below is a very uncomplicated submarine made by a kid playing around in the software. The program is meant to exist very intuitive.

While Paint 3D is only coming out next year, you lot tin get it as a preview already in some countries, including the US, so I wanted to do a quick tutorial so that once y'all go access to the programme, yous can go started correct abroad with the tricks in here (at the end, I'll show you how to get the previe

What you tin do with Pigment 3D

Allow's start with a spicy demo of what you can practice with it… your mind volition exist diddled. For example, imagine beingness able to make presentations with 3D models, using the Morph transition to spin things around, such equally in this simulated presentation I made with a 6-sided cube…

Then hither is what the Preview of Pigment 3D looks like correct when you lot open it. From here, you can use the typical features of Paint to draw – simply the real fun comes with cartoon using this 3D drawing feature by clicking on the cube here. If nosotros then go down and click on the right pick here, we'll exist able to add depth to whatever object we describe.

In one case the object is drawn in (this star shows my lack of artistic ability, by the way!), y'all can rotate it around and pull information technology back as far as you like.

Another classic matter you can brand is a deject – because it works really well with this soft edge 3d characteristic (the option on the lesser right), which gives information technology a nice puffy expect, sort of like a balloon or a pillow, when you rotate it. You lot tin can and so look at the shapes from all angles and and so color them in in further as y'all like.

Even so, I personally have no artistic ability whatsoever when it comes to drawing from scratch (equally you saw with the star), so my favorite thing to do in this plan is use pre-made objects washed by real artists and customize them.

The mode to get pre-made objects is to go to this 3D sharing community chosen Remix3D, which is already available in many countries, where y'all can see objects uploaded by other users, including professional ones done by the Microsoft team themselves.

Let'south find a cool object to customize. I'll search for the discussion "city flat building 2" and click on it, given it has some aplenty wall space to customize. Every bit you tin can see, this is an instance of a professional person object made by Microsoft.

If you click on the easel icon, third on the correct under the Microsoft logo, you tin can add it right into Pigment 3D. One time information technology's imported into Paint, you can then rotate information technology around, depict on it, and customize equally you similar.

My favorite way to customize is by calculation something called "stickers," or your own images that get wrapped around the objects. To add together stickers, get to circumvolve icon on the carte du jour, then to the right-most tab, then choose the Add My Ain option (the plus sign).

From here, you tin choose your ain image to add. For a absurd building image, I chose an ad for my Spicy Slide Pack – just for fun. I put my face up on the ad so you can see how something like a campaign poster might wait like also. Before I placed the sticker, I rotated the edifice then that a blank wall was showing (a perfect canvas for whatever custom image, which is why I like this building model in detail).

Hither is what information technology looks similar later resizing. After I'yard washed, I striking the "stamp" icon on the right so it stamps right on. Later on I rotate it, you can see that the sticker moves correct with the building as if it's really stamped on.  You lot can rotate the building to whatsoever angle – and you accept yourself a customized creation – pretty absurd.

Pro Tip: When you're using stickers, make sure your sticker doesn't touch the edges of the side you lot're working with – otherwise, information technology can bleed over the edge and not look good – hopefully this is something that will get fixed in the regular version. To avoid this bleedover, exit a slight border around the sticker – it will be barely noticeable.

Once you're done stamping on the sticker, you tin can then save your projection as a Paint projection or as a 2D prototype (PNG, JPEG, etc.) so you can start using it right abroad in your projects and presentations.

Still, don't count on the quality being too high simply yet in this Preview version. While the models wait perfect in Remix 3D, and the stickers expect skillful before y
ou import, when you get everything into Paint 3D, the quality goes a bit downhill and becomes more than pixelated. So I wouldn't be using it with 4K monitors just notwithstanding, but withal great for some experimentation and fun (I personally can't finish playing with it!).

For the cube at the first of the postal service, I followed the aforementioned process of adding stickers to a cube shape that I made in Paint 3D. I merely pasted stickers of dissimilar colored squares with words onto it (being careful with the edges). It'southward actually adequately like shooting fish in a barrel to make – it just takes a fiddling patience to align everything carefully.

You may as well be wondering how I got the "animations" to work in the videos.

These are actually simulated animations, since right at present, the only mode to make motion is the "caveman mode," which is just rotating the objects by clicking and dragging – while recording the screen. You tin can then crop the edges of the video to give it a white background, then insert it into PowerPoint only like a regular video. Also, if you have a video editor with green screen compatibility, like Camtasia, y'all can even add a green screen behind your object when you spin it, so remove this colour in your video. So just a couple of ideas to think about.

You can record the video with a complimentary screen recorder similar CamStudio or in PowerPoint itself with the screen recording tool, if you have version 2013 or afterwards.

Information technology's non very elegant, and like I said, it'southward not the highest resolution right now, only it will amaze your audition because they'll say – how in the world did you practise that?!

At present there are a TON of other things you can practise in the Paint 3D preview (including 3D printing from information technology!) simply this overview should be plenty to get you started playing with it.

How to get Paint 3D

In social club to get Paint 3D every bit a preview, you need to be a Windows Insider, which is available in select countries. Microsoft has a great footstep-by-step post on how to go access to Paint 3D (including the countries that accept information technology).

Have patience – you may run into some snags, and it may have a while. Information technology took me almost 24 hours (which seemed like an eternity!) to get Paint 3D to appear – but information technology was well worth the expect.

Well I hope yous enjoyed this tutorial, and information technology'southward inspired you to think about how our presentations will be transformed very shortly with the use of these 3D tools. Imagine using 3D graphics with the morph transition in PowerPoint to seamlessly rotate equipment diagrams, for example, and and so many other things – presentations will never be the aforementioned.

Cheque out this "engine of the futurity" false animation I fabricated, for case:

To see this full tutorial in video form (with additional spicy examples), check out my 3D Pigment Preview with PowerPoint Animation video hither.

Thanks for checking out this tutorial, and if you know of whatever other emerging presentation technologies – let me know, and I may characteristic information technology in a hereafter mail.
